I have a 5 and 3 year old who LOVE pretend play. And I mean LOVE. It is exhausting for me, because I am not one with much imagination. But this activity was a huge hit with them and I felt good knowing they were learning in the process. This could be a great addition to a lesson plan on counting or shapes. It also teaches following directions and number recognition. The best part is, it is printable, free, and ready to go!

If you want to reuse it, simply… laminate it! (You’ll find that I suggest that frequently. I am kind of obsessed with my laminator). I have included the pizza base as well as multiple shape cut outs. If your child is old enough to do a decent job with scissors, let them cut out the shapes to extend the activity.

Also included are multiple pizza “orders”. If you are homeschooling like we are, this is a great option for a morning basket rotation that the kids can work on while you are making breakfast or still trying to open your eyes in the morning. Just set it out on the table the night before with a couple of different pizza orders for them to follow!

If your child does not yet recognize numbers, I have included 2 blank pizza order sheets. You can use these to draw your own pizza orders. My 3 year old is still learning her numbers, so for her I draw each shape the number of times she will use it. So if I want 4 squares, I will still write the number 4 in the number column but I will also draw out 4 squares in the shapes column. As you do this, your child will start to connect the number 4 with the visual shape representation of the 4 squares.
My favorite thing about this activity is that it can continue to inspire play. After doing the activity, my kids will sometimes make “orders” for each other. It is a great opportunity to collaborate and play together in a way that hopefully won’t end in crying. Happy cooking!
