Love Ninjas: A Lesson on Service for Valentine’s Day

My friend told me that she did this last year for her kids and it was a hit! So we introduced it to our kids last Monday during family night and it has been fun watching them come up with ways they can be kind to one another and serve each other.
The idea is simple. Have the kids work together to color the heart. Or you can color it if you have the free time and you are into that sort of thing! We laminated ours, and once again I will link my laminator because I use it all the time and it is amazing.

Once your heart is ready to go, you can start the game! We did a lesson on service and how we don’t need to receive recognition for our service for it to be the right thing to do. And then we introduced the game. They had so much fun thinking of themselves as ninjas and planning to secretly serve one another. I have found them doing more kind things for each other this week even when it isn’t their turn with the heart. My friend said that one day she woke up to find that her kids had made breakfast for everyone. While I am grateful my kids haven’t tried that because I can’t even imagine the mess, you get the idea! It is a fun, meaningful way to make Valentine’s day about more than receiving valentines from others. It really turns the focus on helping others to feel loved. And I love that.
