At-Home Family/Date Night Idea: Learn to Draw with YouTube

My husband and I make an effort to have a date night once a week. It has been awesome for our marriage to set aside the daily tasks and do something fun together. I would highly recommend everyone set aside a day each week to spend a couple of hours together. And to make it more than just binge-watching the next season of your favorite show. Be intentional about planning something that will let you connect and remember why you got married in the first place. Raising kids is hard and it is easy to get lost in who you are and your relationship with your spouse.

All that being said, budgets are tight. We can’t afford to get a babysitter every week. Our date nights are always on Friday and I would say that we get a babysitter twice a month. The other two date nights we plan something to do together at home. I will link a post of some of our favorite at home date nights soon.

Our kids love when we get a babysitter. We have one girl we consistently ask and they just love her. They are disappointed when they have to be a part of our date night for the first hour. But they prefer it over going to bed so they still pester us after we tell them it is our time now. So we always try to include them until bedtime. Sometimes this just involves dinner. But recently I had an idea that I wanted to do with my husband, but I knew the kids would love it too. So we let them join for the first 30 minutes before sending them up to bed. And it was a blast! Everyone loved it!

Grab some paper, pencils, and something to color with and sit down by the TV to learn to draw with the help of Youtube! There are thousands of tutorials and different levels of difficulty. We chose to use the Art for Kids channel which was great for all of us! I’m sure my husband and I could have used a bit more of a challenge but it was a great warm up! We specifically did the Stitch and Minion tutorials, but lots of them look fun! My husband and I got to laugh together at our own drawings (and especially at the kids drawings secretly). And the kids found a new hobby that they frequently request when they are bored.

So if you are in a date night rut and looking for something new to do, or even if you are just bored with the kids one day, you should try out some Youtube drawing tutorials! It is a lot of fun!
